The Challenge: Outdated Infrastructure in a Coastal Environment

Several blocks on Suffolk Road in Great Yarmouth were equipped with wooden communal doors and analogue entry systems over two decades old. The age of the systems, coupled with weather-related wear, posed security concerns and usability issues for both residents and staff.

The Solution: Wireless, Durable, and Resident-Friendly

Following cable testing that revealed insufficient continuity for traditional wired systems, Malthouse Security Systems recommended a wireless GSM-based solution from Intratone. With high-mounted GSM units to ensure strong cloud connectivity and no need for internal handsets, installation avoided resident disruption—critical across six separately accessed buildings.

Simultaneously, Bamford Doors replaced the existing timber doors with modern aluminium alternatives, chosen for their durability in coastal conditions and compatibility with the new access control system.

Resident Impact and Results

The upgrades have transformed daily access for tenants, with video-enabled entry systems now connecting directly to mobile phones or landlines.

A Forward-Looking Investment

The council has reported increased satisfaction from both residents and staff, citing better security, aesthetics, and cost efficiency over previous setups. The new systems are also easier to manage remotely and offer a more sustainable solution for the long term.
