Spring Forward: Upgrading to Cloud-Based Access Control Systems

Integrating cloud-based systems into the homes you’re responsible for makes life easier for you and the tenants. Managing a property without cloud-based access control is less secure and makes your job harder.
At Intratone, we supply a vast range of access control products that use the cloud to make life easier for everyone. We want to help you understand why you should upgrade to a cloud-based system for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Why Upgrade to Cloud-Based Access Control?
Firstly, wiring an entire building is time-consuming, labour-intensive, and costly. You’d need a certified electrician to show up and wire any intercoms, for example, to the building and connect them to every residence within the building. However, wireless intercom systems don’t require this invasiveness and instead only need to be digitally connected to the tenant’s mobile device for convenience and comfort.
When tenants aren’t present in their homes, they can easily see who’s trying to gain access to their property from wherever they are with a decent internet connection. Can you, as a property manager, make it easier to organise the properties you manage and their security levels? As a property manager, you can access all the relevant information via the Intratone management portal, while residents will need to download the Intratone app to access cloud-based services.
The time of day that somebody has tried to access the property via keypad or proximity reader will be logged for your records so property managers can keep a closer eye on it. Plus, each tenant will have a unique key fob that you can activate or deactivate depending on whether they move in or out. Maintenance workers or cleaners will be given unique access, too, so you can understand the times they arrived and how long they stayed, but these key fobs can be changed remotely for security purposes.
The Pitfalls of Wired Access Control
To use traditional access control devices properly, you need to be in the building to grant access to somebody trying to get in. Obviously, this isn’t ideal if you’re not home and are getting a parcel delivered or a friend is watering your plants while you’re away, for example.
Wireless devices require general upkeep to maintain their high operating levels, so upgrades are periodically processed remotely. However, it’s impossible to upgrade a wireless device remotely. Instead, it will require physical assistance from a professional electrician, meaning arrangements will have to be made, and you’d need to inform the tenants of this.
Of course, wiring needs to be drilled into the walls of a building to connect the exterior device to an apartment, which is quite frustrating and blemishes the building’s facade. Instead, opt for a wireless access control, and you’ll encounter none of these problems.
