Real Stories: Energ.b. x Amplius x Intratone UK

As the UK moves from analogue to digital communications, housing providers are looking for reliable, future-ready solutions that keep residents connected and their homes secure.

In this case study, we visit an assisted living scheme alongside Nick Bamton, Director at Energ.b., and James Wootton from Amplius, to explore why they chose Intratone and how wireless access control is helping support their digital switchover.

From improving resident access and simplifying installations to reducing ongoing maintenance costs, both share their experiences of working with Intratone and why they believe digital access control is the way forward.

The Challenge

For housing providers like Amplius, upgrading access control across an entire property portfolio involves more than simply replacing old equipment. Systems need to be reliable, cost-effective and suitable for the people who rely on them every day.

With the nationwide digital switchover driving the move away from analogue technology, Amplius is upgrading its sites to Intratone systems as part of its commitment to digital inclusion.

At this assisted living scheme, the project involved installing two intercoms and a fob access entrance, providing residents with a modern, secure and accessible way to enter their building.

Making the Digital Switchover Simple

James Wootton from Amplius explains why the organisation is moving towards digital access control and how this fits into its wider plans for its housing portfolio.

By choosing Intratone, Amplius is investing in a consistent, modern solution that supports its digital switchover while helping residents maintain convenient access to their homes.

Digital inclusion is an important part of this process. Upgrading building technology needs to be about more than keeping systems operational; it's about ensuring residents can continue to access their homes safely and confidently as technology changes.

Keeping Residents Involved

When upgrading an assisted living scheme, communication with residents is just as important as the installation itself.

Energ.b. and Intratone worked together on-site to explain the new systems, talk residents through the changes and answer any questions they had.

This helped make the transition as straightforward as possible, ensuring residents understood how the new access control worked and what it meant for them.

A More Flexible Way to Manage Housing Access

For NCHA, the benefits of Intratone go beyond the initial installation.

The combination of remote management, flexible access credentials and detailed visibility gives their team the tools to manage access more efficiently across their housing portfolio.

Whether it's helping a tenant who has lost their fob, providing temporary access to a contractor, managing staff ID cards or investigating potential misuse, NCHA can handle more of these tasks remotely and respond much faster.

By taking the time to involve residents throughout the process, the team helped make the upgrade a smoother experience for everyone.

Faster Installations and Long-Term Cost Savings

For installers and housing providers alike, installation time and ongoing maintenance costs are key considerations when choosing an access control system.

Nick Bamton from Energ.b. explains how Intratone's wireless technology can significantly reduce installation time compared with traditional wired systems.

Without the need for extensive cabling throughout a building, installations can be completed more efficiently, helping reduce labour costs and minimise disruption to residents.

The benefits continue long after installation, too. With remote management through Intratone's online portal, access credentials can be managed without unnecessary site visits, helping reduce ongoing maintenance costs for the end client.

For housing providers managing multiple properties, these efficiencies can make a real difference over the lifetime of a system.

From Scepticism to a Trusted Solution

Having worked with Intratone for around seven to eight years, Nick has seen first-hand how wireless GSM technology has developed and proven itself in real-world installations.

He admits he was initially sceptical about 4G/GSM-based systems. However, after years of working with Intratone, his experience has changed his perspective, and he now sees wireless technology as the way forward for door entry and access control.

One example particularly stands out: Energ.b. installed an Intratone intercom on a large site around eight years ago and, according to Nick, hasn't needed to return to fix it.

That kind of long-term reliability speaks volumes, giving installers confidence in the products they fit and housing providers reassurance that their investment is built to last.
